WORD JC Presents: Arkady Martine and Elizabeth Bear for A MEMORY CALLED EMPIRE and ANCESTRAL NIGHT

03/28/2019 - 7:30pm

Join us at WORD Jersey City to celebrate the release of two new space operas written by female authors: Arkady Martine's A Memory Called Empire and Elizabeth Bear's Ancestral Night. Arkady and Elizabeth will read from their new books, then have a conversation about the legacy of women who have written space opera and the state of the genre today.

Please note that there is a $5 admission fee for this event. Your $5 ticket can be purchased online or at the door; online orders will be available for pickup at the store on the day of the event. Your ticket functions like a gift card and is good toward $5 off anything in store at WORD on the day of the event, including A Memory Called Empire or Ancestral Night. If you purchase either of the books directly from WORD at the event or via pre-order there is no need to purchase an event ticket.

ABOUT ARKADY MARTINE

Arkady Martine is a speculative fiction writer and, as Dr. AnnaLinden Weller, a historian of the Byzantine Empire and a city planner. Under both names she writes about border politics, rhetoric, propaganda, and the edges of the world. Arkady grew up in New York City and, after some time in Turkey, Canada, and Sweden, lives in Baltimore with her wife, the author Vivian Shaw. Find her online at arkadymartine.net or on Twitter as @ArkadyMartine.

ABOUT ELIZABETH BEAR

Elizabeth Bear was born on the same day as Frodo and Bilbo Baggins, but in a different year. She is the Hugo, Sturgeon, Locus, and Campbell Award winning author of 30 novels and over a hundred short stories, and her hobbies of rock climbing, archery, kayaking, and horseback riding have led more than one person to accuse her of prepping for a portal fantasy adventure.
