Pitchapalooza with Arielle Eckstut and David Henry Sterry

09/26/2012 - 7:00pm

REGISTRATION IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE ONLINE. Feel free to call or to register at the door!  Pitchapalooza is American Idol for books (only without Simon). Twenty writers will be selected at random from the sign-up list to pitch their book. Each writer gets one minute—and only one minute—to pitch their book to the judges and get a critique! Judges Arielle Eckstut and David Henry Sterry will be joined by blogger David Gutowski and agent Kate McKean.

Arielle Eckstut and David Henry Sterry are co-founders of The Book Doctors, a company dedicated to helping authors get their books published. They are also co-authors of The Essential Guide to Getting Your Book Published: How To Write It, Sell It, and Market It… Successfully (Workman, 2010).

David Gutowski is the writer behind the music and literature website Largehearted Boy. Like everyone else in Brooklyn he spends his days working on his novel and reads and writes and listens to music way too much.

A native Southerner, Kate earned her Master's degree in Fiction Writing from the University of Southern Mississippi before starting her career as a literary agent. Her interests lie in literary fiction, contemporary women's fiction, light fantasy and science fiction, young adult and middle grade fiction, narrative non-fiction, sports related books, pop culture, and craft. Kate lives and works in Brooklyn.

The judges will help you improve your pitch, from idea to style to potential in the marketplace and much, much more. Authors come away with concrete advice as well as a greater understanding of the ins and outs of the publishing industry, whether they pitch themselves, or simply listen. At the end of Pitchapalooza, the judges will pick a winner. The winner receives an introduction to an agent or publisher appropriate for his/her book!

To sign up to pitch, you must register below! Every ticket-holder receive will a copy ofThe Essential Guide To Getting Your Book Published, and a FREE 20 minute consultation with Arielle and David (arranged with them for a later date). If you don’t want to pitch, the event is FREE.
