BK: Storytime & Painting! SPLAT with Jon Burgerman

    07/23/2017 - 3:00pm

Kids are in for a giggle inducing surprise with each page flip while reading SPLAT. Jon Burgerman’s children’s book debut ingeniously uses the action of flipping the pages of a book to create a laugh-out-loud story. SPLAT! takes the wackiness that kids love about picture books like The Day The Crayons Quit and combines it with the empowering interactivity that parents and libararians rave about in Herve Tullet’s Press Here. This clever format allows kids to discover (and anticipate) the cause and effect of each page turn, which makes SPLAT! a story that is sure to bring fits of giggles to little ones, but also one that parents, librarians, and educators will love adding to their collection.

Jon Burgerman is a U.K. born, Brooklyn-based artist and a self-described “purveyor of doodles.” At a recent lecture in London, Burgerman described doodling as something you create when you are “thinking and making at the same time.” Though a simple concept, Burgerman’s doodles take on forms much more complex than scribbles on paper. Whether creating goofy collages and videos for his over 60k Instagram followers or collaborating with Sesame Street for a doodle retelling of Humpty Dumpty, Burgerman is continuously finding new ways to entertain, make us laugh, and share his talent with the world. Jon Burgerman is an award-winning artist creating murals, sculptures, toys, apparel, posters, and now, a picture book, all with his trademark playful, bright aesthetic. His art is collected worldwide by several institutions including the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, and his commercial collaborators include Apple, Disney, Nike, Puma, Samsung, Pepsi, Coke, Levis, AOL, MTV, and Rip Curl.
