We celebrate reading all year, but Independent Bookstore Day is when we sound the book alarm the loudest. Since 2014, we and our sister stores across the country have come together on the last Saturday of April to raise a toast to everything that makes indies important. On April 29, show us what you love most about books, reading, and belonging to a literary community.
11:00 am: Golden Book Storytime!
Hopefully we all age as well as Little Golden Books. We’re celebrating the 75th anniversary of these beloved editions with a special storytime of a handpicked list of old favorites, as well as a special photobooth. Stay golden, everyone.
What an honor to have authors Brian Floca, Tim Miller, and Ibi Zoboi join the ranks of WORD booksellers for the day. Stop by to have one of their books personalized, get a book recommendation, or simply strike up a conversation!
If you’re not familiar already, here's a bit about them!
Brian Floca is the Caldecott-winning author/illustrator of nonfiction children’s favorites Moonshot, Lightship, and Locomotive, to name just a few.
Ibi Zoboi’s stunning YA debut, American Street, published earlier this year, is based on her own experiences emigrating to the U.S. from Haiti, infused with heart and magical realism.
Author/illustrator Tim Miller is the author/illustrator of brand-new picture book Moo-Moo in a Tutu. He is also responsible for the giggle-inducing illustrations in Snappsy the Alligator, written by Julie Falatko and Hamstersaurus Rex, written by Tom O’Donnell.
Who better to host a delightfully smutty evening of trivia than romance author and Brooklyn local Sarah MacLean?
Three rounds of rapid fire questions, focused on literary romance across ALL genres. Complimentary wine and pizza from Sizzle Pie provided. Let’s get ridiculous.
