    07/19/2016 - 7:00pm

This event takes place in our Brooklyn location.

WORD is pleased to announce the second installment of BAD ADVICE FROM BAD WOMEN.

Join some of NYC’s best bad women writers as they dominate culture writing with such verve and aplomb, you won’t even mind the coup. Featuring powerhouse balladeer and petite savant Ana Cecilia Alvarez; devastatingly stylish Soul Cycling essayist Mary H.K. Choi; 2 hot 4 Canada Usher stan and music scholar Rawiya Kameir; pug-loving high brow pop culture wizard Maris Kreizman; thriving anchor baby and award-winning fiction writer Alice Sola Kim; and the internet’s original beauty expert, clandestine feminist Autumn Whitefield-Madrano. Hosted by grumpy tweeter and aspiring Kanye, Charlotte Shane.

Ana Cecilia Alvarez writes about sex, labor, psychology, & politics . She's worked as an office girl, a matchmaker, a content miner, a bookseller, a sex educator, and a student.

Maris Kreizman is the creator of Slaughterhouse 90210, a blog and book (Flatiron Books, 2015) that celebrates the intersection of literature and pop culture. She is a writer and critic whose work has appeared in the New York Times, BuzzFeed, The Hairpin, Vulture, Brooklyn Magazine and more. A former book editor, Maris very much enjoys critiquing her own writing.

Autumn Whitefield-Madrano is the author of Face Value: The Hidden Ways Beauty Shapes Women's Lives. Her essays have been published in Glamour, Marie Claire, and at various rest stops along the information superhighway.

Mary H.K. Choi is a writer and producer based in New York. She is a regular contributor to GQ, Cosmo, the New York Times magazine and lots of others. She is the host of, Hey, Cool Job! a podcast about jobs as well as "Broadly Meets..." a sit-down interview series for Vice's site for women. She's written a bunch of comics for Marvel and DC and you can find her work at Her snapchat is really boring. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Alice Sola Kim is a winner of the 2016 Whiting Award. Her writing has appeared or is forthcoming in places such as Tin House, McSweeney's Literary Quarterly, BuzzFeed Books, and The Year's Best Science Fiction and Fantasy. She has also received grants and scholarships from the MacDowell Colony, Bread Loaf Writers' Conference and the Elizabeth George Foundation.

Rawiya Kameir is a writer and editor at The FADER. She writes about music, culture, and the internet for publications big and small, but her best ideas end up on Twitter.

Charlotte Shane is an essayist and author best known for her lyric personal writing, which garnered national attention when distributed in the form of her letters, now collected in the book Prostitute Laundry. The Guardian likened her work to Charles Dickens, and Vice has called it "addictive [and] intimate." She has contributed to many outlets including Matter, The New Inquiry, Pacific Standard, and Playboy, and is a columnist for Fusion. Her website is
