Octavia's Brood & Activism Workshop

    07/22/2018 - 3:00pm to 6:00pm

Join three speculative fiction experts, writers, activitsts, and community leaders to at WORD to learn how Afro Futurism can lead to concrete social engagement in your current community.

Speculative fiction often utilizes visions of the futuristic and fantastical to say something about now as well as what could be. But we can do more than replicate current mainstream power dynamics and ideals. We can challenge them. In the visionary fiction workshop with Octavia's Brood contributing authors Morrigan Phillips, Alexander Vagabond Beaumont, and Jelani Wilson, we will practice world-building and character creation around real world problems and how envisioning beyond our current world allows us all to put the practices of speculative fiction into real world practice.

Entrance is a $40 ticket that includes a copy of Octavia's Brood autographed by the contributors, supplies for the workshop, and a beverage from our cafe!

For Octavia's Brood and Activism workshop at WORD Jersey City on July 22, 2018 from 3-6pm. Admission, a signed copy of Octavia's Brood, supplies, and a beverage from the cafe at WORD Jersey City are included.
