At WORD Bookstores, we take pride in consistently delivering the best in book launches, readings, and panels. We host all kinds of events, from celebrity memoirs in packed theaters to neighborhood authors celebrating their latest YA release with their friends and families in costume. We delight in hosting romance novel panels, science fiction readings, thought-provoking non-fiction lectures, story time for kids, and then some. We have a special affinity for music-themed book events and have had the pleasure of presenting artists and music writers including Carrie Brownstein, Peaches, Jon Fine, Johnny Rotten, Lita Ford, Jessica Hopper and Bob Boilen!
Stephen King presenting End of Watch at Loew's Historic Theatre in Journal Square
WORD partners with a number of venues in Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Jersey to host book talks that just wouldn't fit in our intimate bookstore event spaces. Some venues we've partnered with include Loew's Historic Theatre, Villain LLC, Saint Vitus Bar, Housing Works Bookstore Cafe, (le) Poisson Rouge, and Club Transmission. Our partner venue capacities range from 300-1500. Authors we have presented in the past include Stephen King, Nick Offerman, Chuck Klosterman, Cheryl Strayed, and Sebastian Junger.
Haley Mlotek, Timothy Anne Burnside (of the Smithsonian) and Nona Hendryx celebrating the release of The Pitchfork Review 8 at WORD Brooklyn
Our events space at WORD Brooklyn is downstairs, separate from the sales floor, and has been described as feeling like a cozy living room. Past WORD Brooklyn guests have included Heather Havrilesky, Luc Sante, Catherine Valente, Lindy West and Kate Tempest.
Patton Oswalt signs books at WORD's Jersey City location.
WORD Jersey City's event space is right on the sales floor and viewable from a street with a lot of foot traffic. Up to 200 guests can fit, and the local community is kid-friendly and enthusiastic about reading. Past WORD Jersey City guests have included Michael Ian Black, Jesse Eisenberg, Sherman Alexie, Sophie Amoruso, and Elizabeth Gilbert.
Already have the planning and the venue part down, but need an NYT and Neilscan Reporting bookseller to come through with the copies? WORD may be able to help. Send us an email.
