“[In this] collection of self-aware, stylish, autobiographical essays on love, addiction, and inheritance, Febos harnesses language, moods, actions, and settings with precision. A professor of creative writing, she stuns with sentences that are a credit to her craft and will no doubt inspire her readers.” —Booklist
Melissa Febos celebrates the publication of her highly anticipated second book, ABANDON ME (Bloomsbury), with a reading and party in Liberty Hall at Ace Hotel New York. Melissa will be accompanied by Tara Clancy, Nick Flynn, Amy Gall, Hafizah Geter, Porochista Khakpour, Syreeta McFadden, Shelly Oria and Gregory Pardlo, who will give short readings on the theme of abandonment.
After the readings, Melissa will be available for book signing and DJ Jen Urban takes to the decks to provide some serious celebration jams. All evening, a cash bar will be running as curated by our pals at The Breslin.
Melissa Febos' ABANDON ME Release Party is co-presented by Ace Hotel and WORD Bookstores, a pair of neighborhood independent bookstores in Greenpoint, Brooklyn and Jersey City. Find monthly staff picks from WORD for sale by the Ace Hotel front desk, too.
RSVP is suggested, but not required. Entrance will be first come / served.
In her critically acclaimed memoir, Whip Smart, Melissa Febos laid bare the intimate world of the professional dominatrix, turning an honest examination of her life into a lyrical study of power, desire, and fulfillment.
