BK: Bianca Bosker Presents CORK DORK with Morgan Harris

    06/22/2017 - 7:00pm

This event will take place in our Brooklyn store.

CORK DORK is an instant New York Times Bestseller. Professional journalist and amateur drinker Bianca Bosker didn’t know much about wine—until she discovered an alternate universe where taste reigns supreme, a world of elite sommeliers who dedicate their lives to the pursuit of flavor. Astounded by their fervor and seemingly superhuman sensory powers, she set out to uncover what drove their obsession, and whether she, too, could become a “cork dork.” With boundless curiosity, humor, and a healthy dose of skepticism, Bosker takes the reader inside underground tasting groups, exclusive New York City restaurants, California mass-market wine factories, and even a neuroscientist’s fMRI machine as she attempts to answer the most nagging question of all: what’s the big deal about wine? What she learns will change the way you drink wine—and, perhaps, the way you live—forever.

Bianca Bosker is an award-winning journalist and the author of the New York Times bestseller CORK DORK, hailed as “thrilling” by the New York Times and praised as the “KITCHEN CONFIDENTIAL of wine.” Bianca traded her career as The Huffington Post's executive tech editor for a job as "cellar rat"--the lowest of the low in the wine world. Inspired by sommeliers who train their senses the way Olympians train their bodies, she plunged inside neuroscientists' labs, underground blind tasting groups, Michelin-starred restaurants, and mass-market wine factories as she trained to become a "somm" and uncover the nature of taste. She has written for The New Yorker online, The Atlantic, The New York Times, and Food & Wine, among other publications. Her Instagram alter ego "#Pairdevil" enjoys the challenging of pairing wines with takeout.

Morgan Harris has worked as a sommelier in New York City since 2009. He began his career in wine bars, but has worked in fine dining for the last three years at Charlie Palmer's Aureole Restaurant in Times Square. He holds an advanced certification from the Court of Master sommeliers and competed nationally multiple times in Top|Somm and the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs Young Sommelier competitions. In addition to his day-to-day work on the floor, he writes and educates frequently. He hopes to spend his career promoting wine as one of the planet's finest agricultural products.

"Thrilling . . . told] with gonzo elan . . . When the sommelier and blogger Madeline Puckette writes that this book is the Kitchen Confidential of the wine world, she's not wrong, though Bill Buford's Heat is probably a shade closer." --Jennifer Senior, The New York Times
